What is Blanking Mould?
A blanking Mould is a specialized tool used in the manufacturing and metalworking industry to perform the process of blanking, which is a type of shearing operation. In this process, a punch and Mould are utilized to cut out a piece of material from a larger sheet or strip, producing a component known as a blank. The blank is typically a flat piece that will undergo further processing or assembly to become a finished part.
Components of a Blanking Mould:
- Punch (Male Component): This part descends and applies force to the material, pushing it through the Mould.
- Mould(Female Component): A cavity or opening shaped to the desired outline of the blank. The material is sheared along the edges of this cavity.
How the Blanking Process Works:
– A sheet of material (commonly metal) is placed between the punch and Mould.
– The punch presses down with enough force to shear the material along the contour of the Mould opening.
– The sheared piece (the blank) separates from the surrounding material.
– The blank falls through the Mould or is ejected for further processing.
– The remaining material, often called scrap or skeleton, may be recycled or discarded.
