Hastelloy G3, Inconel G3, N06985, 2.4619, Nickel-Chromium-Iron Alloy
What is G3 N06985 2.4619?
Hastelloy Inconel G3 (UNS N06985) is nickel-chromium-iron alloy with addition of molybdenum and copper. The alloy has excellent corrosion resistance to oxidizing chemicals and atmospheres while offering resistance to reducing chemical resulting from the nickel and copper content.
Hastelloy Inconel G3 is a cold hardened nickel based alloy, intended for corrosion resistance to highly sour (H2S) environments with high chloride content, requiring high strength up to 400°F. The high nickel and molybdenum content of G3 extends the sour service limits of nickel alloys while also providing excellent resistance to chlorides and dissolved oxygen. It is therefore used for downhole tubular components, packers, and other subsurface equipment in severely sour wells with high-pressure and high temperature (HPHT) conditions, saltwater Injection wells, and Acid Gas injection (AGl) wells. However, all environmental factors including H2S, CO2, temperature, pH, and chloride concentration, should be considered before final material selection.
Where is G3 N06985 2.4619 used?
Hastelloy Inconel G3 is used in handling equipment that processes reducing acids such as phosphoric and sulfuric. Other applications are scrubbers, sour gas and oil production equipment.
For sour service applications, it is classified in MR0175/ISO15156 as a type 4d alloy, with no restrictions to a partial pressure of H2S below 300°F and resistant to 300 psi H2S at 425°F.

More About G3 N06985 2.4619
INCONEL G3 (UNS N06985/W. Nr. 2.4619) is a nickel-chromium-iron alloy with additions of molybdenum and copper. Some of the minor elements are controlled to yield increased resistance to heat-affected-zone (HAZ) corrosion and improved weldability. INCONEL G3 has excellent corrosion resistance to oxidizing chemicals and atmospheres. It is also resistant to reducing chemicals because of its nickel and copper contents. Nickel also provides the alloy with exceptional stress-corrosion-cracking resistance in chloride-containing. The high environments molybdenum provides very good resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. The low carbon helps prevent sensitization, giving the alloy resistance to intergranular corrosion.
INCONEL G3 is particularly suitable for handling reducing acids such as phosphoric and sulfuric. It is used in flue gas desulfurization systems (scrubbers), especially in quencher, damper, and outlet ducting areas. It can be used in other air pollution control systems in the chemical and pulp and paper industries. It is a good candidate for evaporators, heat-exchangers, tank liners, and other equipment in phosphoric acid manufacturing plants. Today’s exploration for oil and gas leads to a range of highly corrosive environments that, in turn, require arrange of corrosion-resistant high nickel content alloys. INCONEL G3 is one of these alloys, providing an excellent combination of mechanical properties and strength. This alloy has been used extensively as OCTG Oil Country Tubular Goods)in hot, sour environments
